Hopes and Fears is the debut album from the indie rock band Keane, formed in 1995 in Sussex. Their original line up included guitarist Dominic Scott, and when he left the lead instrument in the band became the piano, which gave them their distinctive sound and differentiated them from most other rock bands at the time. The album was recorded between 2001 and 2004, and on release in May 2004 it immediately topped the UK Albums Chart. It became the second best-selling British album of 2004, and has since been certified 9× Platinum.
