Dublin-born post-punk troupe FONTAINES D.C. marks their fourth LP Romance on XL Recordings. Following the blowout success of 2022’s Skinty Fia the lads decamped for London and set about piecing together their most adventurous music yet under the tutelage of long-standing indie/dance crossover producer/musician James Ford. With reported influences disparate as contemporary experimental club, classic 90’s hip-hop, and heavy metal, FONTAINES nevertheless retain their signature sonic motifs here, thrillingly widening their scope without losing the plot. Tracks like the anthemic big music of ‘In The Modern World’ prove this group is ready to take their sound everywhere else.
