Odd Soul was created with a stripped down Mutemath line-up following the departure of long-term guitarist Greg Hill. The remaining members – Paul Meany (vocals / keyboards), Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas (bass) and Darren King (drums) – embraced the spirit of independence as they spent six months working on the album at Meany’s home studio without any outside interference as Mitchell-Cárdenas covered guitar duties. Rooted in New Orleans rhythm and blues, Odd Soul fuses eclectic elements ranging from psychedelia to traditional gospel to modern electronica with highlights including the bombastic Zeppelin-esque groove of "Allies" to the syncopated soul of "Blood Pressure" and electro-ambience of the ballad "In No Time".
