Panic! At The Disco returned with their fifth album Death of a Bachelor, released in early 2016. The album features the singles "Hallelujah", "Victorious", "Emperor's New Clothes" and "Death of a Bachelor".
Thematically, Death of a Bachelor is Brendon having his final party as a bachelor before making the big leap and getting married. It starts with crazy party anthems with songs like "Victorious" and "Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time". As the album carries on, he ties the knot as told on the title track "Death of a Bachelor", which is both parts Sinatra and dance pop. From there, the songs get more introspective and yearning with "Golden Days" and "House of Memories", possibly the sudden doubts that come after taking the leap into marriage. The album closes with the beautiful hangover of "Impossible Year", the recognition that even when the party's over, there's greater value of having someone to share life with.
Death of a Bachelor is a is a volcano-sized martini glass of emotive, theatrical, genre-bending pop much like all of their discography, and the rat pack influence and concept elevate the album to make it stand out as a very complete and poignant work.
Limited Edition SILVER vinyl produced by Fueled By Ramen in 2021 in celebration of the label's 25th Anniversary.
