For their fifth full-length release and first for Warner Bros, the Red Hot Chili Peppers enlisted the talents of producer extraordinaire Rick Rubin. It resulted in the band's breakthrough record as well as their high-water mark, a sprawling 17-song punk/funk/hip-hop hybrid awash in sexual innuendo and references to drugs and death. Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991) produced no less than five hit singles including "Under The Bridge," "Give It Away," "Breaking The Girl," "Suck My Kiss" and "If You Have To Ask," selling over 15 million copies in the process.
